Since the Team's final report was published, the campus has developed a number of sophisticated web sites that should also be reviewed for direction and content as they apply to this project. The UCSD Online Guidelines Team completed a minimal prototype of GO! , a system designed to provide information on UCSD business processes and policies, in March 1997. The GO! prototype was created as a proof-of-concept that would illustrate the effectiveness of a web-based system in providing easy and rapid access to information in the campus' highly-decentralized environment. Because of the short time frame involved, the prototype was kept extremely simple: pages often contain only skeletal information, and little time was spent on aesthetics. It was envisioned that future phases of system development would address issues of graphic design, connecting to existing transactional systems, etc. UCSD is now seeking a GO! Project Director to lead this project. In partnership with campus stakeholders, the Project Director for Online Guidelines will envision, design, and build a "meta-site" that will provide integrated, coherent, and intuitive access to business information (policies, procedures, data, etc.), existing web sites, training, and transactional systems. If this sounds interesting, see the job posting on Administrative Computing and Telecommunications' web site. Last updated: October 20, 1998 |
