Position overview:
The Production Analyst is responsible for implementing and maintaining the routinely complex to moderately complex computer-based
administrative production computing environment operating within the ACT Data Center. This consists of the IBM OS390 operating system on an IBM
Parallel Enterprise Server, Sun / Solaris UNIX operating system on various Sun Servers, and the various operating systems utilities used with
either.
The ACT Data Center is a large data center capable of providing service to more than 500 concurrent users and supports more than 5,000
total users. The administrative information systems ISIS, IFIS, PPS, DSE and data warehouse applications provide information to the entire UCSD
campus as well as feeder information and reports to the Office of the President.
The Production Analyst must have general knowledge of how the various applications operate, how they interact with one another, skills to identify program errors, and skill in using the UNIX operating system
to correct those problems. The Production Analyst reports to the (Production) Computer Resource Manager and assists with the implementation of new
or modified applications, the development of documentation to support the production environment, and the resolution of problems as they occur.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge in the use of standard mainframe and UNIX scheduling packages.
- Knowledge of OS390-based systems including IBM JCL and TSO.
- Knowledge in the use of UNIX including, file structures, C Shell, source code control systems and directory structures.
- Knowledge of IBM and UNIX hardware and software, as well as their capabilities and limitations.
- Skill in analyzing impacts to production job schedules when jobs abnormally terminate. Ability to coordinate actions to recover data and restart applicable jobs.
- Ability to research documents, manuals, publications, technical documents, vendors, and WWW to resolve production issues and provide documentation for continuing reference.
- Employee must be able to move and handle 50 pound cartons of computer paper.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.
Special conditions of employment:
- Background check required.
- Must be able to work overtime or on-call nights and weekends and evenings, as job requires.
- Must be willing to work shift work with shift changes every four months.
- Must be willing to work a non-standard work week in response to facility needs.
